Launching of 13,000-ton oil/chemical tanker

On the afternoon of May 13, in Hai Phong, Pha Rung Shipbuilding Company (Shipbuilding Industry Corporation) held a launching ceremony for the 13,000-ton oil/chemical tanker with hull code YN-01 named “BS HAI PHONG”, the drydocking of ship number 2 with hull code YN-02 and the signing of the contract to build ship number 8 with hull code YN-08.

These are products of the same series of 13,000-ton oil/chemical tankers newly built for a Korean shipowner. This is also the third time that a Korean shipowner has ordered a series of oil/chemical tankers from Pha Rung Shipbuilding Company.

The 13,000-ton oil/chemical tanker named “BS HAI PHONG” is the first ship in a series of 8 new-build oil/chemical tankers for a Korean shipowner. In 2018, this shipowner ordered a new 6,500-ton oil/chemical tanker named “YN BUSAN” (the city where the shipowner is headquartered) at Pha Rung Shipbuilding Company.

This event aims to celebrate the 69th anniversary of Hai Phong Liberation Day (May 13, 1955 / May 13, 2024). The ship owner named the ship “BS HAI PHONG” as a symbolic mark of solidarity and friendship between  Hai Phong City  and Busan City (Korea), as a testament to the friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Korea.

The 13,000-ton oil/chemical tanker “BS HAI PHONG” has the following basic parameters: Overall length is 128.6m, width is 20.4m, side height is 11.5m, draft is 8.7m. The ship was designed by a Korean designer and classified by KR Register.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, the leader of the Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (SBIC) assessed that the ship “BS HAI PHONG”, the first ship in a series of 13,000-ton oil/chemical tankers, has been and is being deployed on schedule. This event marks an important milestone in the construction and completion of the product with the experience accumulated from previous projects by engineers and workers of Pha Rung Shipbuilding Company and the effective cooperation of the ship owner. SBIC leaders believe that the ship will be completed and handed over to the ship owner meeting quality and progress requirements.

Pha Rung is an experienced unit in building new oil/chemical tankers. The ship “BS HAI PHONG” will be completed and handed over to the shipowner for operation in September 2024. According to the plan, the next ships from YN-02 to YN08 will be completed and handed over by Pha Rung within 4-5 months/ship. With the construction of 8 oil/chemical tankers this time along with other repair and new construction products, Pha Rung Shipbuilding Company has enough work and products until 2027.
