Officially approved Mr. Nguyen Van The as Minister of Transport

This afternoon (October 26), after listening to the report on the discussion results at the National Assembly Delegation and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s explanation and acceptance, the National Assembly approved the appointment of personnel for the Ministry of Transport and the Government Inspector General by secret ballot.

The vote counting result showed that 461/466 National Assembly deputies voted in favor (accounting for 93.98% of the total number of National Assembly deputies) to approve the appointment of Mr. Nguyen Van The – Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee, Head of the 14th National Assembly Delegation of Soc Trang province to hold the position of Minister of Transport, term 2016-2021.

The resolution on approving the appointment of the Minister of Transport and the Government Inspector General was also passed by the National Assembly shortly thereafter.

Thus, Mr. Nguyen Van The officially became the new Minister of Transport, replacing Mr. Truong Quang Nghia – who was just assigned by the Politburo to be the Secretary of Da Nang.

Speaking after the announcement of the results, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan congratulated the two Government members who were honored to be approved by the National Assembly to hold the positions of Minister of Transport and Government Inspector General; hoping that they will strive to excellently fulfill their tasks in the new positions entrusted to them by the National Assembly.

Mr. Nguyen Van The was born in 1966, from Thap Muoi district, Dong Thap province. He is currently a member of the 14th National Assembly for the 2016-2021 term, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Soc Trang province.

During his career, he has held many different positions.

In 1983, he was admitted to Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, then sent to study at Moscow University of Road Transport, Soviet Union.

In 1989, he graduated from university and was awarded a degree in Civil Engineering, then was assigned to work at the Transportation Equipment and Materials Service Company – Irrigation in Thap Muoi district, Dong Thap province.

Three years later, he was transferred to the Department of Public Works and Transport of Thap Muoi district, Dong Thap province. And was admitted to the Party a year later.

In 2001, he successfully defended his PhD thesis and was awarded a PhD in road traffic; he was assigned to work at Dong Thap Province Traffic Construction Consulting Company as Deputy Director. Four years later, he was appointed to the position of Deputy Director of Dong Thap Department of Transport.

In 2009, he was transferred to serve as Deputy Secretary of Tan Hong District Party Committee. Later, at the Tan Hong District Party Congress for the 2010-2015 term, he was elected Secretary of the District Party Committee. At the Dong Thap Provincial Party Congress for the 2010-2015 term, he was elected as a member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee.

In 2011, at the 11th National Party Congress (January 12-20, 2011), term 2011-2016, he was elected as an alternate member of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. After that, he was elected as a delegate of the Tan Hong District People’s Council for the term 2011-2016.

In 2012, he was elected by the Provincial People’s Council as Vice Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee.

He was appointed by the Prime Minister as Deputy Minister of Transport from June 2013 and held that position until October 2015 – when he was transferred by the Politburo to become Secretary of the Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee.

In 2016, at the 12th Party Congress for the 2016-2021 term, he was elected as a member of the Party Central Committee.

In the 2016 National Assembly and People’s Council elections at all levels, he was elected as a member of the 14th National Assembly and a member of the Soc Trang Provincial People’s Council for the 2016-2021 term.
