On the afternoon of May 13, in Hai Phong city, Pha Rung Shipbuilding Company launched a 13,000DWT oil/chemical tanker with hull code YN-01, named “BS HAI PHONG” for export to Korea, and at the same time, started construction of ship number 2, hull code YN-02 and signed a contract for ship number 8, hull code YN-08.
Mr. Vu Huu Chien, General Director of Pha Rung Shipbuilding Company, said that the ship “BS HAI PHONG” is the first in a series of 8 newly built oil/chemical tankers for the shipowner Y-ENTEC Company (Korea). This is the third time that the Korean shipowner has ordered a series of oil/chemical tankers at Pha Rung Shipbuilding Company.
In 2018, the ship owner ordered a new 6,500-ton oil/chemical tanker named “YN BUSAN” (the city where the ship owner is headquartered) at Pha Rung Shipbuilding Company. Pha Rung Shipbuilding is a unit with extensive experience in building new Handysize oil/chemical tankers.
Pha Rung Shipbuilding Company chose the time to launch the ship on the day to celebrate the 69th anniversary of Hai Phong Liberation Day (May 13, 1955 – May 13, 2024). The ship owner named the ship “BS HAI PHONG” as a symbolic mark for the solidarity and friendship between Hai Phong City and Busan City, demonstrating the friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Korea.
The 13,000DWT oil/chemical tanker has an overall length of 128.6m, a width of 20.4m, and a height of 11.5m, designed by a Korean designer and classified by KR Register. The ship “BS HAI PHONG” will be completed and handed over to the shipowner for operation in September 2024. According to the plan, the next ships from YN-02 to YN08 will be completed and handed over by Pha Rung Shipbuilding according to a schedule of 4-5 months/ship.
“Thus, with the construction of 8 oil/chemical tankers this time, along with other repair and new construction products, Pha Rung Shipbuilding Company has enough work and construction products until 2027,” Mr. Vu Huu Chien emphasized.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Tien Dat, Deputy General Director of the Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (SBIC), commented: After more than 1 year since the implementation of the cutting ceremony, the launching of the oil/chemical tanker with good quality and on schedule has affirmed the experience accumulated from previous projects of Pha Rung Shipbuilding workers and the effective cooperation of the ship owner. He also expressed his gratitude to Mr. Park Yong Ha, Chairman of Y-ENTEC Company and his associates for their affection for Vietnam and Hai Phong by naming the ship “BS HAI PHONG”.
He also requested Pha Rung Shipbuilding Company to focus all resources and make every effort to complete and hand over the ship to the owner as soon as possible after launching as committed, as well as complete and hand over the next ships in the series on schedule.
